This form allows you to submit abstracts and/or panel proposals to the Knowledge / Culture / Economy International Conference.


Changing practices of knowledge and culture have been central to recent debates concerning economic and organisational life. This conference will assess the shifting roles of knowledge, culture and economy in contemporary and historical scenarios of globalisation, production, consumption, expenditure, crisis, governance, technological change and reckonings with nature. It will bring together theorists and practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds and knowledge institutions to debate these issues. Particular themes are: Asia Pacific Cultural Economies; Cultures of Finance; Economic Diversity; Digital Life; and Fragile Environments.
Paper and panel proposals addressing the above themes are invited. Proposals spanning one or more themes or other aspects of Knowledge / Culture / Economy relations are also welcome.


The Knowledge / Culture / Economy International Conference is proudly hosted by the Institute for Culture and Society at the University of Western Sydney.


The conference will be held in Building EA at the University's Parramatta South campus, located at the corner of Victoria Road and James Ruse Drive, Rydalmere, New South Wales, Australia.

Abstracts can be submitted for oral presentations only; there will be no poster presentations at this conference.

  • All abstracts must be submitted online through Conference Online. You will need to create an account with this system. You will be able to return and make changes to your abstract if necessary, prior to submitting it.
  • Abstracts must be submitted in English.
  • You may submit two separate abstracts using this form. 
  • Abstracts must not exceed 300 words, and each abstract must only be submitted once. If your abstract is not already part of a proposed panel session, one will be assigned to you after the submission deadline. Presentations should be approximately 20 minutes in length.
  • Abstracts should be text only; photos, tables or other images will not be accepted.
  • Panel organisers may submit only one panel proposal on behalf of their panelists. Please note that panels should have no more than four papers presented during a 1.5 hour timeslot. Lead authors should submit their abstracts individually, but should indicate to which panel they belong (i.e. indicate the panel title used by your panel organiser).
  • Abstracts will be reproduced directly from the typescript. Corrections cannot be made once the abstract deadline has passed. Please proofread your abstract carefully before this date.


  • The extended deadline for abstract submission is 11.59 PM, THURSDAY 28 AUGUST 2014 (AEST).
  • Abstract submissions will be peer reviewed. The Conference Organising Committee will have the final decision on which abstracts are accepted. Announcements of successful submissions will be made on 12 September 2014.
  • Accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference Abstract Book and distributed to delegates of the conference.


The rates to attend the KCE conference are as follows. Each rate includes morning and afternoon tea and lunch daily. All rates are inclusive of the Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST)

  • Earlybird concession rate (expires 26 Sept 2014): $295;  Concession rate (expires 20 Oct 2014): $345.
  • Waged earlybird rate (expires 26 Sept 2014): $395; Waged rate (expires 20 Oct 2014): $445
  • Daily rate (no concessions, no earlybird rates, expires 20 Oct 2014): $265
  • Conference dinner: Three course gourmet meal plus drinks: $99 per head (only 70 seats available)

Please note: the Institute does not have funds to support conference attendees' expenses for the conference.
