CALL FOR PAPERS

The explosion of surfing culture is testament to the unique experience of surfing. Connecting with the energy of the ocean is an essential part of the surfing experience. The future of surfing is difficult to imagine with the growing popularity of surf culture and increasing pressures from population growth.

The International Surfing Symposium will celebrate the conservation of surfing experiences and explore sustainable surfing futures. The Academic Session, hosted by Griffith University, aims to bring together the best researchers and industry professionals to share the latest research and new ideas to the surfing community and industry.

Theme: Sustainable Surfing Futures

Keynote speakers will expolre the issue of sustainable surfing. To guide scholars and professionals as to the expectations of the conference, the follows topics are of interest to the International Surfing Symposium (Academic Session). The conference is open to surfing academics and surfing professionals, who can contribute to the conference topics:

  • Surfing and conservation
  • Surf tourism
  • Surfing technology
  • Sustainability and surfing
  • Surfing products
  • Surf coaching
  • Surf culture

Call for Papers

This is a call for extended abstracts for the Academic Session of the International Surfing Symposium. Submit an extended abstract of 600 words in length. All abstracts are subject to review by the conference committee. There will be no full papers to be submitted for this conference. Academics and professionals who have their papers accepted will be expected to present their work at the conference.  Papers will be published as a volume of proceedings with an ISBN.  Presentation guidelines will be forwarded upon acceptance of papers.

Submission deadline:  Tuesday, 31st January, 2017

The Academic Session of the conference is hosted by the Griffith University Centre for Sustainable Enterprise.
